At first blush, Tampa looks like any other midsize American city, but a deeper inspection reveals a dark and intriguing history. Ghosts, galleons, and 'gators all lurk beneath the surface of Tampa Bay. From ancient explorers' quest for the Fountain of Youth to the House that Mouse built, central Florida is a heady mix of old-world intrigue and modern convenience. The C11 Tampa committee has planned Convergence for Memorial Day weekend to allow as many people as possible to attend. Besides, who really needs to be hungover at work on Monday?

Tampa serves as a homebase to a number of attractions that might be of interest to Convergence patrons. Busch Gardens sits in the middle of Tampa, as does Lowry Park Zoo. Orlando and all its offerings are 90 minutes down I-4, making it very easy to combine a trip to Disney World or Universal with Convergence debauchery. For a city of its size, Tampa has a nice selection of cultural sites. The most famous being the Dali Museum, which is located just over the bay in St. Petersburg. There are a number of other world-renowned museums in the area. These include the Florida International Museum, The Florida Holocaust Museum, and Tampa Museum of Art.
